Q: My husband and I would like to visit the Galapagos Islands in October. We have 10 days in total. Do you recommend a cruise (and if so, with which company?) Or independent exploration?

A: Yes, I would recommend a cruise. You might actually get to Baltra, or Puerto Ayora, on Santa Cruz Island, and traveling via speed boats that ply between the islands of the archipelago. But it would look complication because access to the most interesting areas encompassed within a national park, is permitted only under the supervision of guides. You would need to buy on-site tour, which does not return you cheaper than a cruise.

Some 90 yachts and sailboats, ranging in capacity from 10 to 90 passengers are allowed to sail the waters of the archipelago as part of cruises lasting from three days to two weeks. The most popular are cruises a week. Better choose boats moderate capacity (ideally are those who board fifteen passengers) because of larger tonnage vessels do not have access to certain sites where the number of visitors allowed to land at the same time is highly quota.

The boats are classified into five categories: economic, tourist, tourist superior, first class and luxury. Unless you are traveling privilégiiez like "backpacker" I do not recommend the first two, because the facilities are rudimentary and you would be continually exposed to the smells of fuel.
